During the annual grading ceremony, students play against a capoeira professor or mestre in order to gain their capoeira belt. This event is a celebration of students' achievements over the year and an opportunity to meet visiting capoeira experts. Our last grading took place in February 2020, with 132 children taking part.
With up to 500 participants, this events brings together groups from across our outreach programmes, after-school clubs and the Streatham Capoeira Centre to compete, perform and meet other peers and capoeira professionals.
UINCAP's students, teachers and volunteers regularly participate in school international events, Black History Month celebrations and community days, delivering workshops, performances and talks about the history of capoeira.
